5 Tips for Effective Outdoor Safety

When talking about outdoor play for children, outdoor safety is an extremely important factor that should not be disregarded. Here are some ways that can help in making sure that your children will stay unharmed and safe even when they are playing outside.

Number 1. Set boundaries – no matter what the size of your yard is, it is vital that you set the boundaries with your kid onto where he or she can play. It’s your responsibility to designate areas that are safe for them to play and those that are off limits. For them to understand this easily, you can use visual landmarks such as large rocks, fences or other property markets to establish a safe parameter.

The streets should be off limits to them if for example that they will play outside without adults supervising them. Whenever there’s an active traffic passing by, children should never be encouraged to play on the street.

Number 2. Do not talk to strangers – this is literally a good point to ensure outdoor safety. You’ve got to tell constantly to your kid that they should avoid talking to strangers regardless if they look friendly and approachable. Your children may say hello to your neighbors you trust and know but you must tell them not to speak to random people passing by.

Number 3. Never leave them out of sight – say that your kids gets bored when playing outside or has decided to play somewhere else or go for a walk, you should tell them to come to you first and inform you. Your child must never wander off on their own or even in group without your confirmation. This is an important rule that shouldn’t be broken when it comes to outdoor safety. If your child takes a bike ride or a walk around the block independently, they shouldn’t leave without your permission.

Number 4. Watch out for cars – don’t expect that drivers will always follow the rules so even if there’s a post on your area indicating the speed limit, don’t feel too confident on it. Meaning, cars might come down to road unexpectedly and without paying attention to the kids who play nearby. You have to imprint on your children’s mind that outdoor safety shouldn’t be overlooked and they can do this by being vigilant of their surroundings.

Number 5. Wear the right clothing – whether the snow is falling or sun is shining, it is essential that your child is always wearing appropriate protection for elements to ensure that their outdoor safety is not compromise.
